For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 2 Thessalonians 2:7.
The mystery of iniquity or the mystery of lawlessness is the deceptive signs and wonders or strong delusions of Satan. Paul was warning the Jews, the church and the Christians about the coming of the man of sin- the Anti-Christ. The Anti-Christ will come into Jerusalem and will deceive the Jews that only he can protect them. He will begin to build walls around the city of Jerusalem as a sign of protection of the Jews from their adversaries. Read Daniel 9:25, which says:
...the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
The Jews have rejected Jesus and have believed the strong delusion of a false Messiah, as Revelation 16:13 puts it 'The false prophet' who is also the Anti-Christ.
There are many anti-christs who have entered the world to deceive followers. They strongly oppose the peace of the kingdom. They want people to believe that they're super powers.
Iniquity
Iniquity is a sin of trying to exceed God in power, knowledge and wisdom. Or to change His laws and times with lying vanity, even the act of justifying evil is iniquity. Iniquity is born out of strong hatred against the wisdom of God. The wisdom of the flesh opposes the wisdom of the Spirit. The tower of Babel was built to oppose the great wisdom of God. God responded by confusing the wisdom of fools. You can read my post concerning iniquity: The Difference Between Sin and Iniquity
Mystery
And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. Revelation 17:5.
Mysteries are prophetic. They works in symbolism. One of the mystery of iniquity is harlotry, and abominations. The spirit of harlotry has possessed the culture of the world. Mysteries are prophetic while magic are diabolic.
When Paul the Apostle used the term 'The mystery of iniquity' it means that iniquity is already forseen by prophecy and you shouldn't be taken by surprise.
Harlotry
Harlotry is the spread of whoredom by seduction, prostitution and pornography. Harlotry is a mystery of iniquity because it comes with strong delusion to make man fall from grace. Paul in 1 Corinthians 6 said that he that is joined to an harlot is one body with her.
Harlots are seductress, fornicators, prostitutes and porn artists. This destroys every bit of faithfulness and truth left in a man, the moment he commits fornication with an harlot. Paul said such has sinned against his body- in other words, he is unfaithful to his own self. He denies himself, he betrays himself. Beware of harlots.
Abomination
I define abomination as the Beast or demon in authority, power or dominion. When demonic spirits to rule over you, you're in abomination. The Bible always reflects the Beast as an abomination. Demons are beasts too. The Anti-Christ is the Beast.
List of Some Abominable Acts
1. Bestiality
2. Incest
3. Homosexuality
4. Blasphemy
5. Adultery
6. Fornication
7. Idolatry
8. Witchcraft.
The Consequences Of Abomination
1. Perdition.
Those who commit abomination are marked for destruction. They are the sons and daughters of perdition. They are destined to go to hell. In John 6 verse 70, Jesus said that one of his disciples is a son of perdition. The 666 is a mark of perdition.
2. Shame.
Abomination will make a man inherit shame. Reuben slept with his father concubine and at the end lost his honor ( Genesis 35:22). Shame is the loss of honor and glory; also the loss of power. God reduced Nebuchadnezzar to an animal for seven years because of pride.
3. Disaster.
Abomination brought disaster upon the land of Sodom and Gommorah. Some of the disasters that happen around the world today are a result of abominable laws and practices that humans love. Disasters can be beyond the natural, they're can be the vengeance of God against humans. The tower of Babel fell not because of structural failure but spiritual failure. They failed to acknowledge God in their heart (their foundation). Man is waiting for the stars to fall on them before they will stop abomination. It's a pity we don't learn.
4. Plagues.
Every season of epidemic is a time to remember that we have gone against God by looking down on Him. In Revelation chapter 2 from verse 20, Jesus said that he will cast Jezebel that calls herself a prophetess and those who committed fornication with her to a sick bed, unless they repent of their deeds. The biggest failure of a man is the failure to repent of his evil deed.
5. Famine.
Abomination leads to what economist called The Biblical Famine. God curses the ground when we hardened our heart towards Him. Economic depression, poverty, hardship and heavy inflation would bedevil our society if we keep preaching and practising abomination everywhere.
6. Death.
No one is above God's law. Every abominable sinner must die as a penalty for his offence. This death would come at the height of his deeds. God killed King Herod by striking him with rotteness when he spoke blasphemy (Acts chapter 12).
